Carnival Cruise 2007
It was our first time away from our kids and while we were excited, we were nervous as all get out. We cruised in April on Carnival. It was a 5 day cruise. We stopped for one day in Cozumel and another day in Progreso. I'd totally do it again, cruising is the way to go! When we left Galveston, a northern front had just came in. It was cold and rainy. We couldn't wait to leave!
Everyone is required to do the safety drills so the first hour was not a blast but we got into our room before hand so we could drop off our stuff.
The first stop was Cozumel. It's obviously geared for tourists near the dock. Don't stray too far from the main road because it gets real REAL fast. If someone asks you to look at their store, say no. We went snorkeling as our shore excursion. It was okay. I've been snorkeling in the Bahamas, so compared to that, it sucked. The fish are bland and there's not a lot going on under the water. Bill had never been snorkeling before, so he thought it was fun. The people were nice, but the taxi ride back to the boat was horrifying. Red lights? What are those? AGH! I think I held my breath the entire time.
Our second stop was Progreso. This is not to be confused with the Texas border town. In 2007, this dock was relatively new so it probably (hopefully) looks different now. There was a shopping village like area set up on the dock but that was it. We met for our excursion on the dock and got on a bus right off of the dock. We rode a chartered bus with working AC to the ruin site of Dzibulchaltun. It was HOT. Like August in South Texas HOT in April. The ruin site itself was really interesting.
Did I mention the bugs? They were HUGE and everywhere! There were several that I'd never seen before. Scary.
Overall the experience was definitely positive. It was nice to go somewhere new and we didn't have to drive or stop somewhere to eat. All of that was taken care of. It was a great way to escape real life for a little while. We were glad to go home. We missed our kids.
